What you should do right now, before you are even assigned a single composition or project, is to ether buy the handbooks on the rules or bookmark the sites for the rules on your computer. Do it now, so when you need it, you are ready.
2. Work Backwards-I know it sounds weird, but as you organize your schedule for completing a term paper, work from the due date backwards to the current moment. Leave at least two days of a buffer on the end to handle any issues. Schedule every single due date, all your interviews, your trips to research, and your writing time. If you map out a plan at the beginning, you will stay more organized as you work through the process.
3. The Outline-the outline is one of the most important pre-writing tools you can use. The more detailed that the outline is, the less time it will take for you to write. In addition, you will have fewer errors and be more likely to stay on track. There are two basic outlines, the topic and the sentence. In the topic outline you only use phrases and are not allowed sentences expect for in quotes and the thesis statement. In the sentence outline, you can have as many sentences as you wish.
4. Seek help-if at any point you need help, then go get that help. You can get free help from your instructor, a peer, or the writing lab. Or you can pay for help via a tutor or a writing company. There is no shame in seeking help; the shame is in not seeking help when you know that you need it. So, regardless of your budget, you can easily find help on campus when you struggle with essays. 5. Plagiarizing-it may be tempting to use another student’s work or to submit an essay you have located online, but never do this.
